Different Types of Brain Surgery

Brain surgery is an operation on the brain to remove tumors, blood clots, aneurysms, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s disease.

Craniotomy

A craniotomy is a form of brain surgery in which the doctors remove a part of the skull so that they can see the brain. This type of surgery is used to remove a brain tumor, abnormal tissue, blood, or blood clots.

Biopsy

A biopsy is a form of brain surgery typically done after the surgeons had spotted a potential abnormality. This is used to remove brain cells or tissue for examination.

Posterior fossa decompression

A posterior fossa decompression is a type of brain surgery in which the surgeon makes a small hole at the back of the patient’s head to remove a small portion of the bone at the bottom of the skull. This is used to detect problematic blood vessels without opening up the skull too much.
