Comparing Breath of the Wild and Minecraft

In my many years of playing video games, two have stood out to me as the best games I have played until now: The famous sandbox Minecraft, and the masterpiece open-world action-adventure The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (I will be abbreviating it as BOTW) is different from Minecraft in many ways, one of the most significant being the art style. Minecraft goes for a more blocky look, but BOTW has a very high polygon count – meaning that it looks much smoother than Minecraft does.

Take a look at these two clips for comparison (note: the BOTW clip looks slightly pixelated because it's on a small display):

By the way, this is my footage (I beat the game three times, don't worry)

And now Minecraft:

This is also my footage. You might have to put the volume up a bit.

As you can see, Minecraft looks a lot blockier, and as I explained in the video, the game has no set goal. That is another big difference. In BOTW, the goal is to save Princess Zelda, who was captured by the evil Ganon. In Minecraft, your goal is to survive and have as much fun doing so. Or you could play in creative mode and build to your heart's desire.

So, the goals and the game art is different, but what is similar to the two games? The music is very similar between BOTW and Minecraft, in that it rarely plays, and when it does, it's not very loud and quite calm. However, the BOTW music changes when you encounter an enemy, while the Minecraft music does not.

Another similarity is that both games have many, MANY glitches and bugs that the developers didn't fix, which are often exploited by players to beat the game faster. The clip below is a super launch glitch called a bullet time bounce.

This is my 30th try (at least)
